About us
NTNU Samfunnsforskning AS (NTNU Social Research) is a mission based research institute dedicated to developing and disseminating knowledge across a wide spectrum of issues vital to the development of our society. The research institute was established as a joint stock company in 2004, as a continuation of activities within the research foundation Allforsk. The company is owned in its entirety by The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and works closely with professionals within different fields of expertise at NTNU.
About us
Research
NTNU Samfunnsforskning AS is an approved research organization and receives an annual basic grant from the Research Council of Norway. This is used for strategic development of research activity and competence building. The department offers decision-oriented and applied research and knowledge to clients in the public and private sector, nationally and internationally. The largest clients/sources of funding are public authorities (ministries and directorates), private business, non-profit organizations, the Research Council of Norway and the European Union's research and innovation programs. Since 2008, NTNU Samfunnsforskning AS has also operated a national competence center within mental health work, which is funded by the Norwegian Directorate of Health.
We seek to create a broad academic environment without sharp boundaries between basic research and applied research. Our research is academically independent, innovative, socially relevant and maintains a high academic standard. We place great emphasis on having our research presented in peer-reviewed publications and forums. We take great pride in our research contributing to societal development, and that our results are given weight in policy formulation and societal debate. We work actively to disseminate our findings and analyzes to decision-makers and the general public through seminars, articles, scientific publications, reports and books.

Organization
NTNU Samfunnsforskning AS is based in Trondheim and has approximately 120 employees. The institute is organized into six research departments. Four of these are located at Dragvoll, while two of the departments are located in the city center of Trondheim. The academic staff consists of researchers with backgrounds primarily within the fields sociology, social anthropology, political science, economics and social geography, in addition to natural sciences and technology. The competence center's employees have experience from research, education and fields of practice. Most have a background in health professions, social sciences or communication.

This means that we systematically work with environmental measures in our day-to-day operations and comply with the Eco Lighthouse Certification criteria for work environment, purchasing, energy, transport, waste, emissions and aesthetics. Being Eco Lighthouse Certified is both about reducing the company's external environmental impacts, but also about the people and the internal environment within the workplace.
